Slam Dunk Live Blog-asm: Let the Kid Play!

After the skills competition there was the extremely talented young kid who played the sax. He started to play, sounded brilliant, and about half way through he got booted.

Can you believe that?

The NBA hates children!

Slam Dunk Live Blog-asm: Getting Close

Detroit just won the 3-point contest. That was a lot of fun actually.

And it was funny seeing all the Phoenix fans here boo Tim Duncan.

Saw Duncan smile once. Three rare things in life: spotting the Loch Ness monster, tax cuts for the poor and Duncan cracking a smile.

There's a woman in front of me holding the actually 3-point champion trophy. She just sat it down six inches from my table. Should I grab it real quick?

Bet I could pawn it for $100 easy.

Seeing Bill Laimbeer, who was on the winning Detroit team, is weird. Not used to seeing him without his elbow in someone's groin.

Now comes the skills challenge. Check back in soon.

Slam Dunk Contest Live Blog-asm: Crazy Idea

The following idea has been discussed a bit before by some in the media but not enough: I love the idea of having all the All-Star games on one day.

Yes, one day. So the NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL would all have their All-Star games on the same Sunday.

In my All-Star fantasy world, it'd work like this.

On Sunday, for example, at 10 a.m. eastern, the NHL would have it's All-Star game. Then a one hour break, and baseball would have it's game. There'd be another one hour break (fans need time to run to the store for more drinks and toilet paper) and the NFL would play it's game. By now, it's around 6 or 7 p.m. eastern. The NBA would then have it's game. I'd play the NBA game last because it's the most entertaining of the bunch.

In my dream I'd try to have them all in one warm weather city at an indoor arena. Phoenix wouldn't be a bad place to have them.

Crazy, right?

But wouldn't that be fun?

Dunk contest coming up soon.

Live Blogging Slam Dunk Contest

...so get your popcorn ready.

By the way, boy was I wrong about the H-O-R-S-E / G-E-I-C-O / G-E-I-H-O-R-S-E contest.

I think this was one of those ideas that's better in theory than practice. The problem is the shots the players are taking aren't all that creative or funny.

They started out with long jumpers. That's it? That's their idea of H-O-R-S-E? It wasn't until later when the shots got more creative but they weren't creative enough.

Don't you remember playing horse as a kid and doing some crazy shots? Like dribbling the ball through your legs, in your underwear, while drinking a beer?

Or was that just me?

Seriously, the crazier the shot the better.

I never thought H-O-R-S-E / G-E-I-C-O / G-E-I-H-O-R-S-E could be so boring.

But don't give up on the idea, NBA. It can work. Just tell the players to loosen up a bit next year.
