The Daily Shoutout: The next Cam Newton?

OPENING HIT: Former Florida State coach Bobby Bowden once told me this about Christian Ponder: "His talent is going to catch come people by surprise." Bowden said it with that thick drawl and extreme confidence. I never doubted Bowden's words. I never doubt Bowden, period, and he in some ways his prediction is coming true. It's not that Ponder is some unknown. It's that we're seeing what long-time Ponder backers have said for several years now: Ponder has it all.

Ponder is the next Cam Newton. He's athletic, smart, throws well, runs well...everything he did at Florida State he'll do with the Vikings. Ponder is the anti-Tim Tebow. His outing against a Green Bay team that's not just the defending Super Bowl champs but a team I firmly believe will go unbeaten for another three of four games (at least) was impressive. And it wasn't a fluke. He's that good.

Chris Cook: If the allegations against Cook are true he'll never play another down of football again. In a league that sometimes -- my opinion -- still takes issues of domestic violence too lightly, I'm hearing from people around football they are stunned about the Cook allegations.

JOHN HARBAUGH: Don't expect the Ravens coach to take the criticism of his offensive coordinator's play calls by players lightly. I'm hearing he's not happy about it and will address the issue with the team (if he already hasn't). Publicly, Harbaugh is saying he's fine with the criticism. Privately, he's not.

And I remain stunned at the poor season Joe Flacco is having. Just didn't see it coming.

The Daily Shoutout: The next Cam Newton?

It's truly pathetic that you would make it a black/white issue.  The fact that you noticed that those quarterbacks are black means that you were the one that was thinking about race.  Get over it.  And I did watch Carolina play.  But every time I look in the newspaper, there is no category for games lost when it wasn't the quarterback's fault.
Just ONE question Mr. Pathetic.... Did you happen to forget about Ryan Leaf or Heath Shuler??  ...or did Young and Garrard (both black) just happen to come to mind when you thought about Cam Newton (who's also black)??   At least ole dude compared rookie to rookie.... You on the other hand, had to compare something... and yeah it was RACE!!  If you didn't want the criticism, you shouldn't have made the post!!!!  Don't get mad at me because I pointed it out!!!

Like I said earlier... You couldn't compare Cam Newton to Ryan Leaf's and Heath Shuler's sorry asses because Cam is WAAAY better than either of their sorry busted up asses...  You went right at 2 black QB's... neither of which are rookies!!!

Now then.... You got any more "I'm not racist, I'm just misunderstood" comments??  ....Brang em!!

The Daily Shoutout: The next Cam Newton?

first of all Cam at least has some games under his belt and has played very very good in them all.  He made some mistakes but he is a rookie.
Ponder played one game.  Yes he played well and made some mistakes too but it is only one game.
If he continues to play this well and it is 5-6 games down the road then consider him something special.
GB has been getting little to no QB pressure all year.  Mathews can't do it all you know.  He is being double teamed to limit his impact and others are not stepping up.
Ponder had way too much time in the pocket in that game to NOT do good things.
And most of his plays out of pocket were designed that way.  They were roll outs.
Not saying he won't be good but let's wait until he has proven he can be consistent in more than one game.
Cam is the real deal though.

The Daily Shoutout: The next Cam Newton?

Ponder is the next Cam Newton?  So that means he's the next quarterback to throw for a lot of yards while his team loses.  That's not really setting the bar very high.  With some practice, he could be the next Garrard.  Maybe even the next Vince Young?  That also means Ponder should have charged Florida State a lot more money to play for them.  Um, I mean his dad should have charged them.
Mighty funny all the QB's you mention are black... Why didn't you call out the Ryan Leaf's or Heath Shulers' of the world?  Don't answer that... It's a rhetorical question...  But you can't actually compare Cam Newton to any of those busts, can you?

BTW... You must not have watched any of the Panthers' games... If you had, you'd know that Cam really only lost one game he's started... That was the ATL game... All the other losses came on bonehead plays on DST... You message board experts are something else!!

Ridiculous! He's got a ways to go before he catches Cam. Funny, I don't see Ponder being capable of throwing for 400 yards as a rookie. Also, those 2 pics were horrendous.....
