I wrote after the Jets-Patriots game, after Derrick Mason was basically benched, the Jets would either keep benching Mason or cut him altogether. I didn't mention the other option: a trade.

I've confirmed a Houston Chronicle report that Mason was traded from the Jets to Houston. I've been told it's a low round pick. The newspaper reported it was a conditional pick.

This move has some interesting ramifications:

1. Is Andre Johnson's hamstring healing slower than expected? Or are the Texans simply looking for more depth? Maybe it's a combination of the two.

2. Rex Ryan is making a statement to his team. And I don't care if he says publicly Mason was benched to get other players reps. No way. Mason was sent packing because he publicly complained about the offense.

3. Mason is actually in a better place. He goes to an offense light years ahead of New York's.

4. Mason may have failed with the Jets but I get the feeling he'll do pretty well with the Texans.

Xstriker, sounds like you are the one who has inserted your stinky feet into your mouth. Sanchez already has 97 completions this year. Your idiocy is showing...

The Jets need more "character" players, not the bunch of prima donnas that they have now.  Mason is not a Team guy, maybe the Texans can change that but I seriously doubt it..

Mason has an agenda now and in the Houston offense he should put up decent numbers. He is gonna go all out to make the Jets look bad for getting rid of him. Dont be surprised if Plax is on the hot seat...the Jets are falling apart

Good idea to trade him, because the dude stunk. Bad idea to act like he was just a spoiled veteran talking smack: Mason was spot on to say that this offense was a mess, and to look no further than Schottenheimer. He runs the ball too much for such a bad running game and lets the clock eat away. This offense is nowhere near as talented but ought to operate more like the Packers. Keep Sanchez in play action and spread the passes around. Keller and Holmes are fully capable pass options to target with some regularity, and give Burress and Kerley their share of looks. Schottie needs to teach his offense how to set a pace, and not to play to the opposing defense's pace

I never understood how Mason and Burress were supposed to be an upgrade from Cotchery and Edwards. I'd wonder why the Jets offense stinks but when your only player is a guy the Steelers were willing to let go for nothing it becomes fairly obvious.

If I'm not mistaken....Rex "big mouth" Ryan predicted before the season started that this guy would have 100 receptions for the Jets this year. Just another Ryan "open-mouth-insert-foot" comment. He'll be lucky if the whole team combined has 100 receptions with Sanchez at quarterback. I'm so sick of Ryan and the Jets !!!!
