The Daily Shoutout: Spoiled brat Cowboys

Posted on: August 25, 2011 7:11 am

OPENING HIT: It's always been puzzling why the Dallas Cowboys of the past five to ten years have been so mediocre. Talent? They have an abundance of it. Coaching? Bill Parcells coached the team and he's going into the Hall of Fame. Ownership? Jerry Jones may be attention seeking but he puts money into the franchise. He's not Mike Brown. They've had everything except...

Humility. That's it. Or maybe the better word is hunger. When I read what linebacker Bradie James told Jen Floyd Engel of FOXSports.com, a bell went off. The Cowboys have been stuffed with a sense of entitlement.

"I think the entitlement kills us," James said. "Our alumni, our former greats have made us America's Team and we reap benefits that we haven't earned — all the way around, as individuals, as a team. Those guys earned it. We just think we deserve it."

Ding. Ding. Ding.

The Cowboys have oozed this for some time now. Years, in fact. It's been a combination of lacking hunger and feeling like they deserve a Super Bowl ring instead of going out to earn one. These teams have been so drastically different from the Aikman/Smith/Irvin group it's been night and day.

I've always believed that quarterback Tony Romo has to be the guy to instill that passion and drive into the Cowboys but I don't know if Romo has it in him.

Now that James has verbalized what many on the team may have been thinking for years could the Cowboys finally adopt a tougher, more scrappy attitude? I don't know. What I do know is that the Cowboys should thank James. He just slapped the franchise in the face. Maybe it will wake them.

HGH: The NFL and union have continued talks about implementing a testing system for HGH. There have been many different discussions involving many different officials including Roger Goodell, the commissioner. For a system to be inserted it had to be done by the season opener. Well, according to one official close to the talks, that seems unlikely.

Things could easily change and the two sides still have several weeks to work something out but the union remains unconvinced, I'm told, about the accuracy of the test. Again, those concerns could be alleviated and a deal struck but it's looking less and less likely that will happen.

The Daily Shoutout: Spoiled brat Cowboys

As a loser, oops, a Redskin fan we know the level of our team, yes they may be crap, with a crap owner with more money than sense, a crap coaching staff, well a crap Head Coach and OC, and we are subjected to varying degrees of crap the entire season!
But they are our crap! We know our limitations, and until, in my humble opinion we kick out the Shenanigans we'll be crap for a while longer.
However, we have never claimed that the Redskins are 'Americas Team'!
The deadskins aren't America's team, because week after week, nobody tunes in to hope they'll lose. They do with the Cowboys, as well as with the Jets and Patriots. Jets mostly because of Ryan's proclaimations, but still... a lot of people tune in to see them, hoping they'll fall flat. Fact of the matter is, more people tune in to watch the Dallas Cowboys either win (we smart people) or lose (stupid people) than any other team in the NFL. More of America tunes in, thus America's Team.

As for claiming you know your deadskins limitations... we don't believe our team HAS limitations. That's what being a fan is about. Sure, Jerry Jones is a crappy GM, but Stephen is far better, and of course Garrett knows talent. I don't quite understand how someone claiming to be a fan can admit their team has limitations. I don't honestly believe the Cowboys won't win the Superbowl every year (except for the Quincy Carter years.. he just sucked.) I believed with Bledsoe. I believed with Testaverde. I believe with Romo. I believed with Hutchinson. I believed with Aikman. I grew up believing with Roger, then Danny White. I believed with Tom, I believed with Jimmy, with Chan, with every head coach we've had, even Wade. That's what a true fan does. A true fan believes.

"America's Team" refers to the fact that the Cowboys are the most popular team in America...with the most "American" fans! Look it up people before making your idiotic remarks!

Hell no! Do not let anyone in on this superb article, especially the Girls in Dallas, this is exactly right!

This is Americas Team, for Girls fans to shoot it down shows how low they are, its there, its done, it will always be there and now you are embarrassed by having the moniker. Good!

It fits exactly into this kids thinking, entitlement but when the going gets tough-No its not us, give it to someone else, its made up, its this its that...excuses...this team was entitled to the Super Bowl last year, Jerry built a billion dollar stadium to showcase his team, yet brittle Romo went down and so did the season....ho hum.

Its all whining and excuses..forget it kiddos, you all have a target on your backs and deserve it, the egos have been there a long, long time. And I enjoy your failures, especially last year.

Moan and graon about my team, go for it, I know the Skins suck, I know Snyder is a tool, now what? I never called the Skins Americas Team, thats idiotic to do, not when they havent won crap in 20 years, like the Girls are on pace to do now. Admit it, you have an owner relying on a brittle little Jeter in Romo, he is past the potential and now your season rests on his collarbone, again. Itll be rough in the 100 degrees, so sad. You should have planned the summer like you planned the winter on the Super Bowl weekend of horrors.

The moniker "America's Team" needs to be officially removed from the Cowboys. They haven't been America's team since the days of Roger Staubach and back then the Steelers beat them regularly. Now it's just used as tradition. I'd venture to guess that the Patriots, Steelers, Packers and Giants are more in line to be called America's Team. The moniker should change every decade.

Who said they were Americas Team? Surely that tiltle belongs to the Packers, Bears, Steelers, Giants or even dare I say the Redskins? For these teams have far more history than the 'johnnie-cum-lately' Cowboys.
I believe it's more a fashion statement, like here in the UK it seems to be the fashion to support Manchester United who have more fans outside of Manchester than inside if it's so-called 'zelebrity' fans are to be believed, the majority of whom have never been to Manchester and most would be pushed to tell you where Manchester actually is! Occasionally you will get a 'celebrity' owning up supporting the teams of their youth not just because it seems fashionable to do so! For example Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) supports Wolverhampton Wanderers, my team as it happens, the Gallagher brothers, Man City, Elton John, Watford, and so the list goes on, not just because someone thought it fashionable!
