Nightmare in Washington

Do you remember the old Washington Redskins? When they were competent. When teams around the league admired them. When they were respected. When fans cherished them. When they made the right moves almost all the time. When ownership wasn't a tiny man and insecure jerk. Do you remember them?

The Redskins today traded Albert Haynesworth, appropriately nicknamed Fat Albert. He was signed for $100 million by Dan Snyder and essentially earned half of that salary by barely playing. There is a compelling argument to be made that Haynesworth is the biggest free agent bust in league history.

Do the Redskins deserve credit for finally dumping Haynesworth and Donovan McNabb and others? Is this a signal that the team finally realizes how far its drifted from its great past? My guess: hell no.

These were moves that had to be made. The Redskins have been foolish under Snyder but no team is that foolish. If Washington hadn't parted ways it would have been a total disaster.

The Redskins are still the Redskins because Snyder is running the team. Until that changes the team will likely suffer more humiliating moments. There's been nothing to indicate that Dan Millen, er, Snyder, has changed his ways, nothing to demonstrate the Redskins are changing course to a better day.

Nothing to show the glorious days of the past when it meant something to be a Redskins fan are coming back.

Nightmare in Washington

I'll give Snyder credit when and if, a big IF, he can keep his hands off the team for another 12 months. Let the Redskins go through a 3-4 game losing steak and the bingo caller will be back!

Could not Disagree more.  For over 12 months now Snyder has been exactly what we've been asking for - an owner with hands off.  People change.  Snyder seems to have changed.  Get over it and get on board.  Snyder isn't running the team anymore.  That's Shanahans job now, and he's kicking ass and taking names this week.  I'm feeling better now than at anytime in the last 15 years.

Nightmare in Washington

Since I was a kid, my two favorite teams have always been the Redskins and Orioles.  It's been tough to stick with them because of Snyder and Angelos.  That's some pretty bad luck to have both my teams ruined by incompetent owners.  I grew up in the midwest and just picked those teams when I was young.  I never lived in the area and feel for the fans who live there.  Hell, I feel bad for me, I can't stand Snyder and I can only shake my head in disbelief at Angelos.  I pretty much have replaced the Orioles with the Sox after moving there and now the Rangers after moving there.  Still have a soft spot of the O's but they're giving me nothing.  Can't switch to the Cowbos after being a life-long Skins fan - I guess I have to wait it out.

If you look carefully over the past couple of season, Dan Snyder has actually tried to do the right thing. He's hired better front office people and has tried to let them handle things while staying out of the limelight. Unfortunately, he hired a coach who has a very similar personality as him, and the coach has really hurt this team over the last couple of years. 'Skins will be very hard-pressed to win more than 6.

Look on the bright side: your owner isn't as bad as Detroit's.

Redskins fans,I feel your pain.We Baltimore fans have a clown as well. His name is Peter Angelos. This man has single handedly ruined one of the greatest baseball franchies in history. Snyder is doing the same.We can only pray for better days.Hang in there..
