McNabb deal in works?

Earlier today I wrote about the future prospects of Donovan McNabb. I wondered if his career would end sadly or if McNabb would get a shot somewhere else. I'm confirming that the Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings are in intense trade discussions for McNabb, according to one source with knowledge of the situation.

Now, this isn't a shock. The Vikings and Cardinals were always potential destinations and once the Cardinals got their shorts in a bunch over Kevin Kolb, it seemed McNabb was destined to be targeted by the quarterback-desperate Vikings.

Now this deal isn't done. I'm told contrary to other reports there is no firm deal in place. Talks could collapse at any moment and I think the odds of it happening are 50-50 at best.

But there's one thing that's all but certain. He's gone from Washington.

McNabb deal in works?

Wonderful, another great QB will embarass himself.  McNabb was a mobile, pass throwing, winner.  The lesser of two evils:  old that can get the job done and new that might get the job done.  How about a guy who is a little younger and has a couple of years left in him. At least the Vikings have Peterson.

McNabb deal in works?

As one of those guys that believe a rookie shouldn't start his first year in the NFL unless absolutely necessary, I think this could be a decent 2011 season option for the Vikes.  A veteran who should be able to pick up the system fairly quickly.  Could do a lot worse.

McNabb deal in works?

No no no no no no no no!!!!!!  We don't want another retread qb!!!  Give the (censored for content) to Ponder, let him take some early lumps, and grow faster as a qb.  I couple years ago yes we were just a qb away.  Now we are hanging onto that window by our finger tips and i'd rather start building the future now then run another retread qb out for a year or two flaming out in the playoffs again.  Let Ponder in and get game time xp and see what happens this year.  If anyone can look deep in their heart and HONESTLY tell me that starting McNabb we are going to win a super bowl then I will listen.  Our deep threat/end zone target is a free agent now.  I'm a vikings fan i'm used to taking lumps.  Rather take more now and get them out of the way early then put it off for a year or two.

Enough with the goddamn washed up veterans already, Vikings.  There are cheaper mentors for Ponder out there; go get those guys.

McNabb deal in works?

Im an Eagle's fan and always will be.I didn't think too much of Andy reid two years ago saying that he wound never trade McNabb. What happened Andy, did you forget what you promised?I really hope the Vikes get him as he did all he could for Philly and he did a lot.So he lost a S.B. so did a lot of other star QB's.He deserves a team that will respect his ablilitys.Philly is and always will be a hard place to play and he did not deserve to get what he did from the fan's and the Eagle management.Win and your a hero, lose and your a bum.Donovan all I can say is that I and a lot of other fans only wish you the best.I hope you get to play against the Eagle's and kick thier dog loveing butts,as you did the first game against them as you did in Philly.(You really made my day when you did that as Reid was really hot after that one).As I said Im still an Eagles fan but there are some on the team who disagreed with the trade to Washington.Go get them Donovan

McNabb deal in works?

  1. This is what I've been hoping for (see post from earlier article).  McNabb gets a shot to do what Favre couldn't - take the Super Bowl winless Vikings to the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
  2. This team isn't far removed from the one that Brett Favre had a non-throw away from the Super Bowl a couple years ago.  McNabb will be handing off to AP which, unlike any time in Eagles history, he will have the best running back in the NFL to keep the defense honest.  This could be a great final hurrah for McNabb.
  3. I'm a Colts fan, but I'd like to see it end well for McNabb. I live in PA and I am fully aware of the raw deal he was given by some Eagle fans. And with the exception of saying a few things that maybe weren't the brightest things to say, he's kept his nose clean and done the right things.  Oh yeah, and he also was quarterback during the most successful time in the Franchise's Super Bowl era history.  You'd think that would matter for something.  With a ring...and it being the first for the Vikings, he also might have a chance to get in the HOF.  But, let's not get ahead of ourselves...  let's just hope the trade happens!  Smile
