The Daily Shoutout

WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED? There was a conference call on Wednesday with key members of the NFLPA and the mood was dire. Some players walked away from the call thinking not only was a deal not close, some felt the talks were perilously close to ending. Things were tense and there was genuine worry about the loss of the preseason.

Then, something happened. It was amazing. It turned everything around but most importantly it forced the owners to make serious concessions, first, on the rookie wage scale, and then later on other issues. Again, amazing.

The question is: what was that thing? What caused the owners to make such grand concessions? I'm told the owners didn't conceede out of the goodness of their hearts. I'm told the players made a threat that scared the hell out of the owners (and I don't think it was court related). But no one will tell me what the threat was.

It had to be big and it had to be significant because the speed at which the owners softened was faster than the top speed of the starship Enterprise. It was an amazing turnaround and, again, I don't think the owners made the concession as part of the normal negotiating process. They made it because the players said or did something that made them extremely nervous.

So here we are. On Wednesday, things weren't looking so good. Now, the deal is closer than it has ever been, and will likely get done by early next week, if not sooner. Unreal.

See you Monday.

Brilliant!

To NFLPA PresidentDeMaurice Smith let me just say this; "Well done, sir, well done." A secret insurance policy to the tune of phhhhhhat dollars for every player, let me say that again, PPPPHHHHHAAAAAT dollars should the season be canceled for any reason, as expected by you when considering the greed demonstrated and expected by team owners was brilliant. DO NOT run for president, dear sir. That is a losing proposition.  Please DO become the the defacto leader of our congress/senate.  If anybody can make the CEO's of America pay for their greed YOU can.  Again, I say, well done, sir.  --- p.s. Did I forget to say thanks for saving the NFL from itself and getting us another wonderful season of gridiron in our future?

SI is reporting that the NFLPA secured insurance last year that will pay players 200k each if there is no season. The owners were informed of the secret fund on Wednesday night. This probably got things moving along.

Larry what the score thing in the right corner is, is some arbitrary point value assigned to the posting.  You will see that whenever one of these so called experts from CBS does a post or blog they will get an amazingly high score even though there is often no concrete content contained.  This is to allow the poster to maintain there status as some sort of superstar...aka...believed to be knowledgeable in the topic that they have written about.  Now as far as your individual ranking that is usually attained by replying to posts/blogs and also starting a blog/post yourself.  You will see yourself generally improve your rating over time and by adding members that are at a higher level to your favorite list. As far as my rating I have been on for some time, improved by being on threads where those that are posting are kind individuals and rated my responses as favorable...though there have been quite a few that have disagreed with me....do not take it to heart and let things go to your inevitable inflated ego...lol...but if you continue to post, rate others posts, start topics or polls you will gain a higher value and then you will be able to start a blog, comment on games and such.  But alas like most of the internet you will certainly find your share of azzholes and those that believe that they are internet tough guys.  Laughing  I am positive there is more to this and would welcome someone to clarify anything that I have missed. Good luck and I will add you to my favorites to get you on your way.

from the begining i said the players only need to get 1 billionaire to say he would love to own a pro football team.  since the owners are the ones that locked out the players they could return the favor of "scab owners".  i have to believe that the players could find 32 billionaires that would love to get a pro team that already has complete rosters and rookies that were drafted this year.  i think the players said they would be forced to find new owners so they could play the game they love so much.  so my vote is the players threatened to create a new league and just let the current owners continue the lockout even though there isn't even one players left to be locked out.

There is some speculation that the players informed the owners about the "secret fund" insurance policy that the NFLPA* established to provide $200,000 per player in the event that the season was cancelled.  The owners didn't want to budge because they thought as soon as the players start missing paychecks, they'll fold.  Once they found out the players actually have a source of income to get them through the season, they changed their tune pretty quickly.

Well! I wasn't disappointed. Every Morning I get my cup of coffee, turn on the old computer and get my chuckles out of reading what is writen on these different post. I don't know what is funnier, the colunist writing their column, or the people that hate the columnist and think they are stupid and don't have the slightes idea on what they are writing about. Question is which one knowss what they are talking about. I don't believe the columnist make up this stuff, they may swing it one way or the other, but they don't make it up, and in turn the people that slam them most usually don't know what they are talking about either. This is typical media stuff. These writters grab a story and run with it, maybe not getting all the facts, but I doubt that many facts are coming out of these negotiations right now. So if you don't like what they say, why read it? Maybe you are like me, you love the intertainment and don't have anything else to do in your life but BITCH. Isn't America wonderful? Our govenment is making a fool out of ist's self just like we are. Keep writing, I lov e to laugh.
