Rookie wage scale agreement

Two officials briefed on the state of the NFL's negotiations confirmed to me the owners and players have agreed on the basic parameters of a rookie wage scale proposal.

This is a huge step. As the sources explained the rookie wage scale was one of the few obstacles remaining. There are still some minor details to work out but it's all but a done deal, I'm told.

There was the usual expression of caution but the feeling was that this cleared the way for a deal to come soon, maybe as early as Monday or Tuesday. It's unclear exactly what system the two sides have agreed to.

The sources familiar with the discussions added there are still some issues regarding the overall collective bargaining agreement to resolve including how to fund benefits for retired players.

"We're closing in on a deal," one source familiar with the talks said.

Now, we've heard this before--close, close, close--but this is a huge moment.

The talks, I'm told, are scheduled to go late into Thursday night and continue through the weekend if needed.

Rookie wage scale agreement

It`s too bad they can`t have some wage scale for all the players. Contracts loaded with incentives would help eliminate teams being stuck with lemons, like lazyfatassalbert. If they had a base salary for each position, they could set it up so when a players reaches a certain goal.... Bonus. That would keep players working hard, and always chasing that big payout

Rookie wage scale agreement

I can certainly see the need to reign in the exhorbitant salaries of the rookies.  After all, haven't most of them already received a FREE college education?  I risked my life as a soldier to earn mine.  If they can't make the cut or their careers are cut short, they have a fall back.  I have always been more concerned about the guys who played their hearts before the abundance arrived.  The guys who play now should be smart enough to make their own plans, knowing the temporary nature of their occupation.

For you people bitching about Freeman – this is NOT an article.  IT”S A BLOG.  In other words it’s a fleeting thought not limited to the space constraints of a tweet.  I love seeing you people bitch about the writers when they are clearly informing you what they know, not claiming to have the whole story.  If you want a complete article wait until the lock out ends and everybody and his brother will have a complete thought on the subject.  Until then a few blog pasts is what you will continue to get.
