Yeah, I know. You're tired of reading about how the sides are close, getting closer, kinda' close, maybe close, not so close, watching The Closer.

But two sources with knowledge of the negotiations say the owners made a significant concession on the rookie wage issue Thursday afternoon. The owners made the concession. That is a huge deal if the sources are accurate.

If true, and the owners are stepping forward, then this thing could actually get done.

The sources expressed caution but both said things are increasingly positive.

We're looking at Friday as perhaps the biggest day of this mess. It could all come down to tomorrow.

We're -- ahem -- close.

To maybe this thing finally ending. Maybe.

NFL owners give significant ground on rookie wage

Remember when NFL Sunday Ticket was $100 a season and you got $20 off if you paid early?  Everyone has gotten so freaking greedy its crazy.  With the economy we havn't gotten a raise in 3 years, our insurance has gone up as well as gas prices and groceries.  The rest of America has had their spending power decreased yet they want us to continue spending $100 per ticket, $10 beer, $10 hotdog...you get the picture.  I hope everyone can decrease their football passion this year so the game can come back to the average American.  Personally I am canceling my Sunday Ticket and really don't care if they play at all this year.  We the fans are the loosers in this not matter how you figure it out.  Put both sides of the greedy bastards in their place.
Lovely thought, but never going to happen. Too many people are addicted.

If i ever hear a retired player bitch about medical care i hope he gets shot in the face!!!!!!!!!!

The NFLPA has sold every player down the river that built this game and for what players who have done nothing in the NFL,and current players are letting them get away with this shit.

Unions are nothing but thugs and i hope they burn in hell!!!!!!!!!!!

This sounds very, very bad. I'm waiting to see details, but initial reaction is that this is not good.

I'd rather have no football this year and get things done right than get a quick fix and have to go through this all again in a few years.

There is 9.2 % unemployment in this country right now.  Either the players play for what the ownes say, or their go and use their college degreess (ha ha ha) and get another job just like any other person.

It is simple.  All first round players are drafted and teams just don't sign them.  They retain the rights to the players and the players make pennies on the dollar playing in Arena league or some other league.

Sign all second rounders and lower and a few free agent rookies.

That'll bring down demand.

As far as collusion, that has to be proven.  All teams deciding to not sign their first round picks is not inherently collusion.  Collusion would mean they collectively agreed to not sign..but if each team decides on their own...not collusion.

It would take the first pick in the draft team to say, we can't afford this guy.  We won't be able to sign him until they get down to 5 yrs and $20 million from the 4yrs and $50 million they want...

then the second team says, hey wait, why not, we can't sign ours either and down and down.  Oh, some jackass won't get it (See Jones, Jerry or Snyder, Dan or Davis, Al), but overall it would work well.
