JON GRUDEN AND OHIO STATE: There's one name already bouncing around the NFL as a possible long-term Tressel replacement: Jon Gruden.

That name isn't a shock, of course. Gruden will be linked to many big-time coaching openings, in college and the pros. But over the past few months, and before Tressel was kicked out on his ass, Gruden told more than a few people he was antsy and desired a return to coaching. One assistant told me Gruden hasn't been shy about it, either. Indeed, Gruden and Ohio State would be a perfect fit (though Urban Meyer might even be more perfect). Expect the usual Gruden denial to the Ohio State speculation but don't believe it for a second. Repeat: don't believe it. He'd listen and take it if offered. And Gruden coaching at Ohio State in 2012 would be perfect timing.

As for Tressel, the NFL has always been fascinated with him. Infatuated might be a better word. You're always interested in something you can't have. "I always wondered why he never tried to be a head coach in the pros," one NFL assistant told me Monday morning in light of Tressel's resignation from Ohio State. That was the infatuation. He was one of a handful of great college coaches who was able to turn his back on the NFL. Even historical greats like Bobby Bowden at least flirted with the NFL.

Meyer might be the front-runner for the position but if you listen to NFL types, with their own sources and agendas, granted, Gruden is in the mix as well. We'll see.

Thank you to all of our soldiers stationed around the world.

See you Tuesday.

Hmmmm....Cheating huh? The dumb sold memorabilia! Not exactly like they were out there stealing playbooks from the opposition. Its so funny seeing Michigan fans pretend they have a football team up there. Fact is we beat you on the field, and you don't have any players or staff that can remember beating The OSU. Cheer up though I hear they're offering classes in how to tie your shoes this fall, so your QB might actually not look like a tard when he's getting his butt handed to him by the bucks this year! No more need be said we're counting in the THOUSANDS the number of days since you last beat us LOL!!!!!!!!!

You losers from up north will still not win. Keep talking and Ohio State will do the walking once again this year! All of you will still be crying the blues and will come to reality some day that your program is just not worthy of being in a D1 football.

Both charges can be reinstated, and I suspect they will after the most recent allegations.

Your coach and school is the one that has cheated for years to win and that is the best you can come up with?
You will only beat Michigan  if you have any players left but I really think when the NCAA get's done with Ohio State they will not have any players left.
So then you will be loser's again!!!!Laughing

Relish now all you Buckeye haters, your day will come. Every major university is in violation of the racist NCAA. That is their misson in life.

Please quote your sources showing that the NCAA is considering a loss of scholarships and a post season ban for OSU football.

I don't know if the person who wrote this has any facts to back this, however, a couple of the articles I read on Monday said that OSU's punishment will be equal to or more severe than that of USC . I would guess that is where that is coming from. Just hear say and rumor spreading.

Also a side note to Mark Freeman, are you a sixth grader on the playground? I realize this is a blog, but plaeas try to write professionally!

Why would Gruden be interested in coaching a team that has zero chance of winning this year or next. Taking a college coaching job is already a step down but taking over a team where half the players are suspended and the NCAA is about to rule them ineligible for bowl games and take away scholarships is career suicide. Let Urban deal with the mess of rebuilding and bringing OSU back to where they should be. Lets just hope that the NCAA doesn't hit them with the "death penalty" or there gonna be another SMU... Wolverine fans must be loving this...

MB Buck, Are you referring to this story by Freeman? Moral barometer? All he is reporting is the possibility of Gruden and Meyer coming to Columbus. Jim Tressel isn't new to the "game". I recommend you look at Sports Illustrated and see how OSU had a problem from day one. Tressel not only turned a blind eye to what was going on he actually fostered it's growth. You can have a coach who actually cares about his players and do it according to the rules. He knew what was going on but he did nothing to stop it.
