Andre Reed Should be in the Hall

The Hall of Fame voters, as they often do, did a superb job with the Hall of Fame voting. Most of the time the voters make the right call.

But they're making a mistake with former Buffalo wide receiver Andre Reed.

He deserves to get in on talent alone. He's fifth all-time with 951 career receptions and ninth in total receiving yardage with 13,198. So in catches and yardage he's top 10. He was, at times, devastating to defenses.

I covered a large portion of his career and there were few wide receivers of his generation that scared defenses like Reed did.

The problem I have with Reed being kept out is that all of the other great Bills are going in. Bruce Smith, Jim Kelly, Marv Levy, Thurman Thomas and Ralph Wilson are now all Hall of Famers.

I'm not sure how you can put all of those outstanding Bills in and keep out Reed.

Reed was as big a part of that Buffalo dynasty as any of those players.

I believe this was his fourth attempt to get in. I get the feeling he might end up being the only Bill not to make it.

And that's just wrong.

Andre Reed Should be in the Hall

I agree he should be in... but what about Cris Carter? You can't honestly say that Reed is more deserving than Carter. I mean I hate the Vikings with a passion, but Cris Carter is just so good. Easily one of the 5 best WRs of all time. I can't say that about Reed.

For what it's worth, Reed should have gotten in over Art Monk and Michael Irvin the last 2 years. Especially Irvin. He has no place in the hall at all.

the problem with irvin though is he probably would've had 3 good years left in his career had he not suffered the career ending neck injury on his 750th career catch. and for reed it is not looking good, as u have rice next year, moss and harrison probaly retiring soon

Michael Irvin definitely deserved being a Hall of Famer.

I think John Randle earned it too.

Yeah Irvin was one of the top 2 or 3 guys playing wr before he got hurt.  Rice and Carter are the only two you may have been able to say were better at that time.  But Reed should be in.

Andre Reed Should be in the Hall

I will not argue that Reed was a better WR than Cris Carter. Numbers are the argument about who was a  better WR, and Carter wins that argument. But the question to the Hall of Fame Voters isn't "Was he the best WR of his generation?" That's Jerry Rice. The question isn't even was he "one of the best of his era"? Numbers alone make that argument. The question is: Was he a great player? Answer is an unequivocal yes. It wasn't just his receiving, other players hang on longer and pick up more statistics. Reed played in an offense that Ran 51% of the time, and had more targets than Carter's did. Burkett, Lofton, Metzelaars, McKellar, Beebe, and of course, Thurman Thomas. Reed was also an incredible blocker, and did more than just catch passes.

People will pass Reed in stats, but not in impact. But this year, there were already 2 Bills in, and further, two WRs to choose from. They split the tickets. It's not that Reed's undeserving, it's that it's a vote, and voting is fickle. Nobody remembers that Duke Snider, the great Dodger outfielder, was elected to the Hall on his 10th try, only that he was elected. Bullet Bob Hayes was in after he passed away, sadly. Reed will get in, when the voting demographics favor him, which they will.

Andre Reed Should be in the Hall

Great post....Andre Reed has always been underappreciated...the difference bw him and Cris Carter is that Andre has 4 rings, AFC crowns that is....but how many players can say that....all while he was in his absolute prime....he did it all...over the middle, over the top, blocked downfield, made big plays....absolute no-brainer....even more than Carter due to overall team success...

Andre Reed Should be in the Hall

There is three Buffalo Bills up for the hall this year and all three deserve to be there. Andre Reed... He is one of the all time best. Cris Carter is deserving as well and as good as Carter was Reeds numbers are closer to Carters then people give him credit for. They both belong. Bruce Smith, WOW! The only real competion Reggie White had for many years as sack leader of NFL. Even on poor defensive teams the Bills had through the years Bruce was always feared by quarterbacks. Like White Smith was double and triple teamed on most downs. Ralph Wilson is also up for the hall. Here is one of the only remaining master minds that joined the AFL and the NFL. Thus giving us some of the best games we could of dreamed for. So in my mind all three should get the vote. Reed has been over looked before but his time is NOW!

Andre Reed Should be in the Hall

Why not let Reed in, since they're voting all the other Bills in????  The Broncos have won six AFC championships and two Super Bowls and they've only got two players in the Hall of Fame, so as a Broncos fan I don't really buy that line of thinking.
